Upcoming Speaking engagement
Should’ve posted about this earlier, but I’ll be speaking at the Tidewater Digital Camera club meeting on Monday (9/8) in Easton, MD. If you’re local and want to know more about what I do, stop by. The talk is geared towards amateurs with an interest food photography but I also talk about my workflow and business practices. Visit the club’s website for more info and directions.
Back from Chicago
- 2 Chicago icons
We’re back from Chicago and getting things cleared from our desks. Jen say’s the conference was great, she learned a lot and is looking forward to putting it into practice. I also had a productive trip, took in some meetings and got some exploring done. I’d forgotten how much I like the city. (the fact that it was in the 80’s everyday I was there probably helped)
Chicago
A Maryland Tradition…
…that I get asked to photograph repeatedly. That’s fine, I really like crabs, and I’ve been trying to find different ways to show them. I’ve come to the conclusion that they’re 1, really ugly, and 2, why fight it. So much of food photography is trying to make the food look great, with crabs, that’s not really a possibility, I mean come on, they’re bugs.
Nice to be working again
August is typically slow for us and up until this week that’s been the case. Phone’s are a ringin’ now though so look out. I had a client ask me if I believe in luck the other day and I said I don’t, I like to make my own. He then asked, what about Karma, I said I’m ok with Karma, if nothing else it makes the world seem like a nicer place. The next week the phones started ringing again. Looks like I have to go do some good now.

Cool Mint
When things get slow (and they have) I like to take some time and noodle around in the kitchen and studio and see what I can come up with. This latest pairing came to me in a Robitussin stupor. (summer colds are the worst.) What a great job I have, even when hard a work on product development I still get to eat well.
