Lights in the woods
One of my clients is a furniture and lighting manufacturer. In addition to regular product shots we will get with them about once a quarter to shoot their display ads. We put this together over the course of a long 20 hour period. This is a live shot, ie it’s not a composite of the night scene and individual product shots dropped in. While shooting live gives up some control over the situation, it also allows us to see the interaction between the products (chandeliers) and the environment in a way that composites may not.
As usual with any dusk shot, we’ve got about 2 minutes where the light balance is right – which makes for a stressful setup. Luckily there were several bottles of wine available after we struck the set.
Historic Campaign Desk
One of my clients is a furniture design company (David Iatesta & Co.) The founder’s home is, of course, filled with wonderful pieces of furniture from all over the world. Some of the furniture is new, some very old. We were using his home for a room shot, and as we’re setting up I asked if it was ok to set my computer down on a particularly old campaign desk. David replies that it’s fine, and away we go. A couple of hours later he turns to me and says, “You know that campaign desk used to belong to Napoleon, right?”
It’s events like this that are one of the many reasons I love my job!

A long day that was a lot of fun
We’re so often bombarded by the notion that “good enough” is acceptable. When you get to shoot a job for a client that really understands what it takes to get it done right – you embrace it. Anytime I can spend a few hours making something perfect for a client is a good day. Shot for David Iatesta Co.

Last week we had a shoot at the home of a furniture designer I do a lot of work for. David Iatesta and his crew are very talented and we had a lot of fun shooting the job.
