What’s for dinner

leave a comment »

Grilled ChickenI’ve started on yet another of my self assignments.  My plan is to take whatever we’re having for dinner that night and find a way to make a photo out of it.  I’d like to restrict myself to not shooting the food as it’s served.  IE, no plates, no bowls.  I will however let myself off the hook if we eat out.

Last night’s – grilled chicken, steamed broccoli and grilled peppers.  (hey it’s summer, it’s too hot to turn on an oven)

Wider range of work available

leave a comment »

For the past few years I’ve been concentrating on my food photography, that’s been going pretty well.  But over the years I’ve amassed a collection of other work that’s not food.  I’ll get hired to do something totally different.  I decided to post some of that work, and as to not dilute the food brand that I’ve been working to build it’s all on another separate site.  www.buchanan-studios.com

Have a look around, you’ll certainly see some similarities and overlap from buchananphotography.com but there’s quite a bit of new work there.

Ok, I know, I’ve been neglecting the blog

Sorry about that.  Jen’s been very busy finishing up a couple of projects and trying to put out fires that a few printers have started.  Note to all corporate clients out there.  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not hire the lowest bidder when it comes to printing.  I understand it’s a lot of money but you get what you pay for.  I’ve had a couple of fun jobs lately, one for a starting interior designer and another for a trucking company on the eastern shore.  Neither of them are food related but both have come to me out of the blue and I’ve had a good time getting out of the box.

No more pencils, no more books

Not that pre-K has books or pencils but you get the point.  School’s out this week, along with the end of long days at home with time to get work done.(or play video fps video games.)  Bennett has found out about Star Wars over the course of the school year.  It’s amazing what the kids learn in school (other than the obvious.) so he’s been begging for a light saber.  I told him that he can have one if he’s good the rest of the year.   If he’s going to get one then I’d better get another, you know, for his sister.

Fine art (term used loosely) sales site launched

Derelict tug

I recently came to learn of a site called Etsy which allows producers of handmade art and crafts to sell their items.  Think of it as a virtual craft show.  The insertion fees and commission rates are insanely low so I figured I’d give it a shot.  I’ve got several images up for sale now and if things work out I’ll load up more as time moves on.  It should be noted this is not a stock sales site.  I’m already selling stock through StockFood and PhotoShelter.  This is strictly display art.

Otherwise things are going well, we’re finishing up the Claires job this week and I have the freezer shoot next weekend.
