Cardiologists, look away (originally from 3/31/08)

Last week we shot for, among others, Glory Days Grill again.  We had several dishes and some drinks to shoot, including the Glory Burger.  Starting with the bun on the bottom, then fried onion straws, half pound burger, BBQ sauce, bacon, cheese, and then the coup de gråce, a fried egg.  All topped with the required lettuce, tomato and onion.  If it sounds over the top it is.  If it sounds delicious, it is.  Tony their culinary director made our food stylist and I one for lunch and let me tell you, it’s wonderful.  If you’re in the GDG service area make it a point to try it, then make an appointment with you trainer.

I like winter.  I like to ski and play in the snow with the kids.  All of my cars have all wheel drive.  With that said, I’m soooo glad spring is here.  It’s our first spring in the new house and the crocuses and daffodils are popping up all over.

Cat Poop Coffee (originally from 1/28/08)

with one comment

Really?  Yeah, really.  It seems some of the most expensive and sought after coffee in the world is now available from Zeke’s coffee in Baltimore.  I was there working on an unrelated story for Urbanite, and I realized I had read an article in the Sun about the exotic coffee (article here)  To be straight with you, the coffee shot above is not of the Kopi Luwak beans (way to expensive to waste on photography.)  I also shot at several places for Baltimore magazine.  As to be expected December and January have been slow.  I try not to dwell on that as it can be too depressing.  Hey that’s what coffee is for right?  Things are picking up, I’ve got some bids out and a couple of new clients are coming through the doors so look here next month for new images.

Has is been a month already (originally from 10/26/07)

Actually, it’s been a month and 2 days!  Last update I told you i was very busy and that has continued.  In the past month I’ve had 19 shoots – including continued work on the cookbook, as well as packaging for a drink manufacturer, industrial images for a weapons manufacturer and the usual magazine assignments for TOTB, Baltimore and What’s Up. From this point on in the year things usually slow down which usually allows us to work on marketing and researching new techniques and equipment, usually.  So far Q4 of 2007 has been very unusual.  Mind you, I’m not complaining, I like working.  Have a great holiday season.

Busy, Busy, Busy (originally from 10/24/07)

My last blog update was on 10/5. In the 14 business days since then I’ve had 13 days of shooting.  Believe me, I’m quite ok with that but it has been a rough couple of weeks.  I’ve had shoots for Chesapeake Life, Exclusively, Baltimore, What’s Up, Taste of the Bay as well as being in full production on the dessert cookbook we’re shooting right now.  I had to turn away some work and I hate to do that.  I also haven’t had a chance to do any sales calls or even update this month’s newsletter.  I’d love to find a sales rep so if you know of any looking send them my way.  Oh, and Jen has been on deadline for Washington Cathedral and Shakespeare Theater as well.  I’d like to work on a production story about this cookbook so keep an eye on the blog for that sometime in the winter.

Desserts, lunch and dentists (originally from 10/5/07)

The past couple of weeks have been fairly busy.  I shot two more assignments forExclusively, the first being the dentist’s office seen below with the surfboards, the other and insurance company.  It’s always a challenge to take a profession that’s considered staid and boring and make the staff look different and interesting.  I also shot for a new client, Pastry and Baking Magazine which is a trade pub for the pastry chef crowd.  And of course the regulars like BaltimoreTaste of the Bay and What’s Up.

Testing and RFP’s (originally from 9/20/07)

It seems every so often I get a rush of RFPs.  It’s as if everyone sits down at their desk and says “This needs to be done when?”  I’ve responded to more requests these past 2 weeks than we did all summer.  I’ve also spent some time testing some new ideas for my next portfolio and planning for a couple of big projects coming up in October.  Actual assignment work has been fairly slow since the last update, luckily Jen has been very busy with a couple of cool projects.  She’s also still doing work for Red Hot and Blue, albeit less than before.  The next two weeks though it seems things switch back, I’m busy, she’s not.  We’ll see.
